Most brides treat the trial as a preview of their look. Treat it as an audition instead - you're testing the artist, the products, and the wear, not just the mirror moment. Here are the 12 checks that tell you everything before you transfer the advance.
During the trial
- Bring your outfit's dupatta or a photo - looks are built around the outfit, not in isolation.
- Ask them to talk through the products as they go: named brands, sealed stock.
- Watch hygiene: fresh sponges, sanitised brushes, no double-dipping in creams.
- Test ONE eye look you're unsure about - a good artist adjusts without ego.
- Check the base at your jawline and neck in daylight - colour match is non-negotiable.
The photo tests (most brides skip these)
- Take photos with flash AND in daylight - flashback (white cast) only shows on camera.
- Take a photo after 3–4 hours of normal wear before removing anything.
- Zoom into your smile lines and under-eyes - creasing here at hour 3 means creasing at your reception.
The questions that reveal professionalism
- "Who exactly comes on my wedding day - you, or a team member?" (Get it in writing.)
- "What's your backup if you're unwell on the date?"
- "What time will you arrive, and how long do you need?"
- "What does the quote include - lashes, hair, draping, touch-up kit, travel?"
